First set of acts announced for the 14th edition of Ultra Music Festival

Phase one lineup announcement held a few big surprises, including appearances by Kraftwerk and New Order. Seeing legendary acts such as these alongside the likes of M83, Justice, Duck Sauce and the like should provide festival-goers with more than enough options to satisfy their EDM jones. Press release follows…

2011 was an incredible year for festivals and electronic music. With the New Year rapidly approaching, all eyes are focused on what’s to come next with the leader being ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL (ULTRA), the world’s premiere electronic music event. Tickets are moving at lightning speed, only a limited amount remain (with early bird and advance on-sale tickets selling out in record time), so the promoters are highly encouraging fans not to miss out by unveiling the majority of the ULTRA line-up on the Phase 1 announcement.

ULTRA is also returning to downtown Miami with Bayfront Park as its new location in order to accommodate a larger footprint for increased capacity. Over the last few years, the festival took place at Bicentennial Park, but after reaching a record-breaking 150,000 in attendance this year, and becoming the first ever, and only 3-day music festival of its kind to completely sell out 150,000 tickets six weeks in advance, ULTRA is moving next door to the tropical, waterfront park nestled between Biscayne Bay and Biscayne Boulevard. The ULTRA team is taking it back to Bayfront, where it last took place in 2005, transforming and customizing the park in a way never seen before.

Each day will be helmed by world-class headliners: TIËSTO and KRAFTWERK Friday, March 23;JUSTICE (Live) and AVICII Saturday, March 24; and DAVID GUETTA and ARMIN VAN BUUREN Sunday, March 25. Other confirmed talent, in every genre of electronic music imaginable, includes: a wide array of international leading electronic music performers including SKRILLEX, KASKADE, AFROJACK, PRETTY LIGHTS, DUCK SAUCE, THE BLOODY BEETROOTS (DJ Set), 2MANYDJS (Live), BASSNECTAR, CHASE & STATUS (Live), FEDDE LE GRAND, KNIFE PARTY and LAIDBACK LUKE; pioneering acts such as NEW ORDER, FATBOY SLIM, and SVEN VÄTH; cutting-edge bands likeM83, MIIKE SNOW, LITTLE DRAGON, NEON INDIAN and METRONOMY; and up-and-coming DJs such as SETH TROXLER and JAMIE JONES.

Electronic music pioneers Underworld named music directors for 2012 London Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony.

Wow… Congrats to Rick & Karl.

PRESS RELEASE…

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) today announced that British electronic music pioneers Underworld have been appointed Music Directors for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The appointment completes the team of senior creatives that will lead the direction of the London 2012 Ceremonies.

Underworld duo Rick Smith and Karl Hyde will work alongside Oscar winning British filmmaker and producer Danny Boyle, Artistic Director of the Opening Ceremony and will be responsible for all the music in the three-hour ceremony taking place on 27 July next summer.

Underworld and Danny Boyle have enjoyed a long and diverse collaboration since Underworld’s track ‘Born Slippy’ featured in Boyle’s film ‘Trainspotting’. Over the following fifteen years the three developed a close relationship, with Smith and Hyde supplying specially created music for ‘A Life Less Ordinary’, ‘The Beach’ and co-scoring the 2007 sci-fi film ‘Sunshine’. In 2010 they came together again to work on the critically acclaimed National Theatre production of ‘Frankenstein’.

Danny Boyle said: ‘Appointing Underworld to direct the music in the Olympic Opening Ceremony is the final piece of the jigsaw for the team of leading British creatives who will deliver the ceremonies.

‘What’s interesting about working with them is how much broader their taste is than you might imagine. With ‘Frankenstein’ we really saw how far we could take a broader approach than we’d used together on the films.’

Rick Smith said: ‘The ‘Frankenstein’ project at the National Theatre was our opportunity to test ourselves as writers and music directors in a completely new environment – Danny asked us to take responsibility for every aspect of the sound and music and encouraged us to draw on a wide musical palette. It was a challenging piece of work with its roots in classic literature, that turned out to be the most fun I’ve ever had.’

Karl Hyde said: ‘We want to leave people with a musical memory of the show rather than a purely visual one. It’s a great honour to be asked to do this and one we’re taking very seriously – it’s certainly not something we’ll get the chance to do again.’

LOCOG has put in place a talented team of leading British creatives to lead the direction of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies.

In May 2010 Stephen Daldry, Mark Fisher, Hamish Hamilton, and Catherine Ugwu, were appointed as Executive Producers across all four Ceremonies, and Danny Boyle, was appointed as Artistic Director for the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

In February 2011 Take That’s creative director Kim Gavin was appointed Artistic Director for the Closing Ceremonies of both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. He was joined by multi-award-winning stage and costume designer Es Devlin and Bond film composer and record producer David Arnold as part of the Closing Ceremonies team.

In June 2011 Jenny Sealey MBE and Bradley Hemmings were appointed as Artistic Directors of the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

From the press release…

Blissfully unconcerned with a world obsessed with categorization as a means of definition, Tigran aka MiM0SA crafts music for its own sake, defying expectations with genre bending soundscapes. Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area and currently residing in Los Angeles, MiM0SA began producing at the tender age of 17. Blessed with an abundance of talent and an ear for sonic experimentation, this fan-favorite has quickly developed a name for himself as one of the West Coast’s top exports. And the word is spreading fast. To say that MiM0SA is on the rise is to miss the mark. Rather, MiM0SA has arrived.

This summer saw MiM0SA globetrotting from festival sites everywhere — including his headlining slot at Lightning in a Bottle, to triumphant performances at Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Shambala Festival, Red Rocks, Electric Zoo, Summer Camp, and Burning Man. MiMOSA also spent quite a bit of time this summer in the lab withSleepyhead, working on new tracks for their highly anticipated collaboration, “Naked Poetry,” which they will release under the moniker SexyTime later this fall. However it was in Brooklyn, NY where MiM0SA found refuge as he wrote, recorded and produced his debut full length album “Sanctuary” to be released October 25 on False Idol Musik. After just one listen, it’s evident that his versatility as an artist goes hand in hand with his refusal to be tied down by any particular sound or style.

While his previous EP release “58 Degrees” favored a more grittier fusion of unrelenting beats and grime, “Sanctuary” works as one cohesive whole piece of work that finds MiM0SA immersed in rhythm, encompassing and centered around the 808 drum kit most notable on the track “Last Night In Town”. However the album carries an authenticity by which MiM0SA’s aesthetic appreciation of the origin of sound is fused with layers of various styles, textures, and grooves that embrace Dubstep, HipHop, 2-step, Moombahton, Dub, and Downtempo. It becomes apparent that while building this collage, his vision was to “Steer away from aggressive tones, but at the same time try to find different avenues to get the same crowd response that a big bass drop would get,” he comments. Take for instance “Castles in the Sky” which finds MiM0SA opting for the classic sounds of straight dub reggae versus the dubstep infused subwoofer odysseys heard on “Tiger Blood.” MiM0SA extends his flavor for hip hop by sampling and filtering vocals that rush with ambient interludes coupled with pulsating tempos and heavy 808s on songs such as “Starseed” and “Way Back to You”.

To shed some light onto what influences MiM0SA, have a listen to his new mix

MiM0SA and False Idol Musik presents MiMOSA’s Sept. 2011 mix

Jamie XX – Far Nearer (MiM0SA’s Last Night iN Town Remix)

Addison Groove – It’s Got Me

LDFD – Twerk It

Brandy – FM Fox’s Nature Boy Rerub

MiM0SA – Stupid Rhydm

Hudson Mohawk – Cbat

SexyTime – BadMothafucka (Next Episode Acapella)

DZ – In The Cut (Original Mix)

MIM0SA on tour:

Whereas the album’s subtle creshendos, relies on MiM0SA’s expression artistically with emotion, his live sets are focused on pure raw energy that capture the rush of earth quaking bottom–end.

In just a few short years he’s shared the stage with standard-bearers like Benga, Skream, Rusko, Datsik, Glitch Mob, Pretty Lights, and Flying Lotus. He’s also played festivals and shows across North America, including Coachella, Symbiosis Gathering, Burning Man, Decibel Festival, and Red Rocks Amphitheatre. This past March found him headlining his first tour, as he criss-crossed the U.S., selling out major venues like Higher Ground (Burlington, VT), the Paradise (Boston, MA), and the Gothic Theater (Denver, CO). Not to mention stellar debut performances at legendary venues such as NYC’s Irving Plaza and The Fillmore in San Francisco. The words tireless and prolific don’t quite do MiM0SA justice. In one weekend he headlined Lightning in a Bottle, blasted over to Summer Camp, and finished off the weekend with a blistering performance Detroit Electronic Music Festival.

We’ll say it again, because it bears repeating, MiM0SA has arrived.

KORN team with Skrillex, Feed Me, Excision, 12th Planet, Noisia, Downlink, and Kill The Noise for new album, 'Path of Totality. Tour featuring DJ sets from Datsik and Downlink.

Interesting press release from KORN…

Leave it to a band like KORN to continue to reinvent itself two decades and ten albums deep into its career. THE PATH OF TOTALITY—due out December 6 on Roadrunner Records–is an experimental album which finds KORN shifting gears and exploring new territory with some of the most important emerging producers on the electronic music scene today.

For The Path of Totality and its corresponding “P.O.T.” ballroom tour this November, the band will change course again by collaborating with the likes of leading U.S., U.K. and Dutch dubstep trailblazers Skrillex, Feed Me, Excision, Datsik, Noisia, Kill the Noise and 12th Planet on record as well as on stage. Expect something completely new, yet utterly and definitively KORN.

The band’s first offering from the album “Get Up!” with Skrillex was the surprise Top 10 rock hit of the summer, the buzz of which started in April in Coachella‘s Sahara tent when Jonathan and Munky joinedSkrillex on stage for a show-stealing unannounced performance of the song. Check out the track at: http://tinyurl.com/3q3rmqa Now KORN has unleashed “Narcissistic Cannibal,” another creation withSkrillex and Kill the Noise at www.korn.com.

Other tracks on The Path of Totality include “Kill Mercy Within” and “Let’s Go” with untouchable Dutch production trio Noisia, Excision tracks “My Wall” and “Illuminati” with Downlink and “Way Too Far” per American dubstep pioneer 12th Planet. Deep bass turns come courtesy of the one and only Feed Me on“Bleeding Out.”

Look for KORN to kick off the first leg of their “Path of Totality (P.O.T.)” tour on November 3 at the House of Blues in Boston. The band will perform material from the new album as well as tracks from their extensive catalog. On each date, they will be supported by dubstep DJ’s Datsik and Downlink, as well as a live set by young upstart Dutch Dub-rockers Dope D.O.D. for an unforgettable one-of-a-kind musical experience unlike any other KORN tour.

Dates for KORN’s “P.O.T.” tour are:
